How To Become A Project Manager Professional

I started working in 2003 when I was 22 years old and I got my accounting degree in Entre Rios, Paraná, Argentina. I did a few internships while studying and got my first full-time job, where I worked for a year.

Then I moved to Buenos Aires, where I live. At the time, it was a big deal to leave everything I had – my job, my family, my friends, my city – to start from scratch in a completely new city, but a whole new world opened up for me there.

I joined Deloitte when I arrived in Buenos Aires! For someone from a small town, it was amazing to join one of the big four! It was truly a great experience!

After that, Quiles (AB-InBev Group) reached out to me with a great opportunity; I stayed there for 10 years working as a SAP consultant for different companies (Indra, Technit, Prokarma) and working with different models (FI, FM, TM, EHS).

In the year In 2014, I received two international SAP certifications: SAP FI – Finance and SAP BOSUP – Event Management with SAP Business Objects.

What Does A Project Manager Do?

For me, it’s always fun to keep up to date, keep learning and test my knowledge by taking on these challenges.

Since then, I started managing implementation projects (ERP, BPM, BI), as well as exploring personal or independent projects and decided to go one step further.

In the year In 2016, I started a postgraduate course in Project Management at the Catholic University of Argentina. I knew then that the next step was to certify myself as a PMP.

In my experience, the PMP certification is just about going deeper into what you know, connecting all the processes and areas of knowledge and the overlap between them.

How Long It Takes To Become A Project Manager?

The key to getting the PMP certification—besides studying a lot—is to practice as many exam simulations as possible. You have to train your mind to solve 200 questions in the four hours you have for the exam. That means you have 1 minute per question if you want to leave some time to review the questions you weren’t sure about.

The first time I did a real simulation it took me 4 hours to finish 200 questions and I was completely exhausted, when I got to question 100 it was very difficult to focus and figure out what the question was.

That’s why training your mind is so important – it’s almost the same as going to the gym to train your muscles. Over time, I improved my timing and also my ability to stay focused and reason through questions.

You can leave the room but you must leave everything in the locker. Security checks are at a high level to ensure that your choice is not fraudulent. Pockets, sleeves and glasses are checked every time you leave the room and are watched on camera during the test.

You can go out to grab some water or go to the bathroom, but the same check will be done when you return. To maximize your time for the exam, I recommend taking as many breaks as you need, but knowing how long you will be away. (Here’s a good way to use this.)

I decided to take the test in Spanish, so I saw the screen split in two. Above, I see the questions and answers in Spanish and below, the same content in English. No matter which language you test in, the answer will always be in English.

For me, it was an amazing and unique experience. If you think it’s easy, it really isn’t. When you finish your answers and send them to the computer, it takes a few seconds to process them. “PASS, congratulations!” It’s a pleasure to see the message. It is inevitable!

I am very grateful for the path followed to obtain this certificate. I now look forward to continuing to pursue new challenges and surpass myself. If you really love what you do, nothing is impossible.
