When he saw what his job entailed in his first assignment, Byrd realized that a college education would be beneficial and that his chance to start was now. .

“With the help of the training, credit hours from my technical training here and the Yellow Ribbon program, I didn’t have to come out of pocket at all,” recalled Capt. Perry Byrd, now an instructor with the 315th Training Squadron. “I started my master’s studies in the next available semester.

The Air Education and Training Command’s 14N Intelligence Officer Course for Goodfellow has special agreements with several universities across the country that allow graduates to transfer 12-15 credit hours to accredited programs for free.

“I love that the Air Force has so many programs that encourage people to pursue higher education,” Byrd said. “I’ve seen a lot of improvements in performance, and I think higher education has a role in that.”

“Graduated military members, whether they are officers or enlisted, are my best and most successful Soldiers,” Byrd said. “Higher education allows them to think outside the box and apply what they’ve learned in their workplaces.” It opens up more doors of information and exposes you to more resources to take care of yourself and take better care of yourself and others.”

Educational development opportunities, such as Goodfellow’s credit transfer program, not only provide resources to encourage innovation, but also emphasize academic development, which ultimately builds stronger Airmen for the joint force.

“Gen. Brown and senior leaders addressed the need to ‘accelerate, transform or lose,'” said Capt. Tyler Sumrall, 315th TRS instructor. it can be linked to the importance of continuing higher education and broadening our intellectual capacity to deal with further change.”

Like Byrd, Sumrall also graduated from the 14N Intelligence Officer Course and transferred to a bachelor’s degree.

Like Byrd and Sumrall, many additional power generators are the backbone of the 14N course, which always leads by example.

“All our instructors are torchbearers who illuminate and mold students into effective intelligence officers,” said Capt. Jesse Johnson, commander of the 315th TRS 14N Intelligence Flight Course. “From pursuing master’s degrees to local training, our teaching staff is constantly pursuing education to better themselves and ultimately our students.”
